Well its been a little while since I posted anything on this blog…My wife and I had a little boy on Feb. 25. He has kept our house full of excitement and busyness:). I hope to be getting on pace with more posts soon, but I think I will have to slow the pace down a little. – - – - Ok, here’s something about painting for everyone that has decided they are going to paint for themselves.
- First of all, if you have decided to paint your house yourself either you just got a quote from a painter (and it blew your socks off!) or you feel mechanically inclined enough to take on the challenge. Either way, its good to know that the reason most house paint jobs go for more than 3 thousand dollars because there is quite a lot of man hours invested in house painting. What this means for you is that you are going to spend more than one night preparing and painting your house. Point to get here – time = $$$$.
- Take the time to prep your job in a professional way if you want professional results. What I mean by saying this is, you need to do the extra work to clean the walls of cobwebs, dust, food, etc…Also make sure to fix the sheetrock – nail holes, door knob dents, damaged trim, popped nails…This will make your job look like a pro did it (this is the biggest part of the puzzle).
- Caulking, use it – If there are gaps in your trim, woodwork, and corners make sure to use caulk. There is nothing that shows rookie work better than forgetting your caulk. Caulk, like cleaning and patching makes your job have a finished professional look.
- Use painters tape if you are unsure about your brush skills. – This is fairly simple, but will cost you quite a bit of time in your prep (it will save you time if you are not good with the brush). Nice sharp lines are much more appealing to your eyes and have a clean finished look.
- Lastly, use quality paint. This is fairly simple, but will save you time on re-coating. It will also give your colours more rich and consistent throughout your job.
Thank you for reading!!
