Actually, when there are permanent stains in grout, even after cleaning heavily, the answer may not be to replace it. Replacing grout can be a very labor intensive proposition and very difficult to accomplish with chipping or scratching tiles.

Instead of replacing the grout, consider cleaning and color sealing it. Color sealing grout is a process of restoring grout back to a completely uniform appearance and stain proofing it in one application. The process is used by professionals but is really easy to accomplish by the average diy homeowner.

The stain protection a color sealer provides goes way beyond that of a clear sealer. In your example, if a clear sealer is a sheet of plastic over a screen door, a color sealer would be like a heavy steel door with a deadbolt :)

You can even change the color of your grout.
